Proposals for Publication

Proposals for volumes produced by the Navy Records Society may be made by any member of the society. Editors of volumes must be members of the society. Proponents should be aware that the society publishes documents relating to the history of the British navy and to collateral subjects. Proposal for volumes are considered by the Publications Committee of the society which makes recommendations to the Council of the society.

Proposals should be made to the General Editor of the society, address below. They should be typed in double space, about four A4 pages long, and provide the following information.

1.) The object of the volume in terms of its principal subject, period and focus.

2.) The subject matter of its constituent parts or chapters which usually consist of series of documents preceded by introductory essays.

3.) The structure, organisation and length of the volume with any special needs resulting from the format of the original material.

4.) The importance of the material that is proposed for publication in shedding light on controversy, unknown aspects of naval history, and important developments or personalities.

5.) The qualifications of the proposed editor to make the selection of documents, to transcribe and edit them, to provide introductory chapter essays and to complete the volume by proof reading and indexing it.
